EX.P.L.O.R.E - Exploring Pathways Learning Opportunities Real Experiences

The EXPLORE program is designed to provide students with opportunities for examining real life experiences in the workplace. The program is intended to serve all Burlingame High School students who are contemplating careers in the areas of; Health and Human Services, Business, Marketing and Retail, Industrial Technology, Engineering and Arts and Communication. Internships, mentors and job shadowing will be arranged according to the interest of the student. The Burlingame Rotary, Burlingame Chamber of Commerce and the Burlingame Lions will be providing these opportunities. Additionally, surrounding Burlingame and San Mateo Elementary schools will be participating and providing opportunities for students who are interested in a career in general education and special education.   If you have any questions or are interested in participating in the EXPLORE program, contact Ms. Hermann in the Career Center.

Work Permit Guidelines

A student must meet the following requirements to obtain a Work Permit:

  • 2.0 Minimum GPA
  • 25  Credits Completed
  • No more than one "F" grade
  • Satisfactory Attendance

Work Permits are generally valid from the time of issuance through the beginning of the next school year. Students must reapply and obtain a new Work Permit at the beginning of each school year.

Complete the Work Permit Request form (under LINKS on this page) and submit it to Ms. Hermann in the Career Center during the school year. If the Career Center is closed, see Ms. Hytche in the Main Office then Mr. Guiulfo in the Counseling Office. Work Permits will be processed within 24 hours of submitting your completed request form. If the school site is closed, a work permit can be obtained from the San Mateo Union High School District Office.
